Frozen Shoulder Syndrome

What Is It?

Progressive fibrosis of the joint capsule causing severe stiffness and pain.

Stages

  • Freezing
  • Frozen
  • Thawing (can last 12–24 months)

Our Work-up

  • Clinical exam (limited passive ROM in ≥ 2 planes)
  • Ultrasound to rule out rotator cuff tear

Treatment at PVI

  • Image-guided glenohumeral capsule hydrodilatation (“distension arthrography”)
  • Suprascapular nerve block or pulsed RFA for pain control
  • Coordinated physiotherapy to restore range early
  • Shoulder Artery Embolization
    Early interventional care can cut recovery time in half.
