Dr. Sameer Ahmed is a dual board certified Vascular and Interventional Radiologist. His areas of expertise include peripheral arterial disease, superficial and deep venous disease, limb salvage, embolization, and interventional oncology.
Dr. Ahmed received his medical degree with distinction from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Ahmed completed an Internal Medicine internship at Yale University (Yale-New Haven Hospital), followed by residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. He completed a Vascular and Interventional radiology fellowship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, where he specialized in the latest minimally-invasive and endovascular treatments.
With a passion for advancing technology and its potential to improve patient outcomes, Dr. Ahmed is dedicated to offering the latest minimally invasive procedures delivered with empathy, respect, and a deep understanding of each individual’s needs. He treats every patient as he would his own family, providing personalized care rooted in trust, compassion, and a genuine commitment to their well-being. Through his leadership and dedication, Dr. Ahmed has successfully established and grown robust vascular programs at multiple hospitals in Illinois.
Dr. Ahmed is recognized nationally for his leadership in research, education, and clinical excellence. He has authored numerous publications on image-guided and endovascular procedures and has trained physicians, residents, and advanced practice providers across the country. He hosts both in-person and virtual training courses on peripheral vascular interventions and is a frequent invited speaker at national conferences. Dr. Ahmed has contributed to multiple national clinical trials as a principal investigator, including those involving genicular artery embolization (GAE), peripheral vascular disease, and genicular nerve cryoneurolysis.
Dr. Ahmed has received numerous awards in his specialty from the Radiological Society of North America, Society of Interventional Radiology, Radiology Leadership Institute, American College of Radiology, International Symposium on Endovascular Therapy, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, National Science Foundation, and Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions for his clinical and research work.
Dr. Ahmed grew up in New Jersey and moved to Chicago after completing his residency. He speaks Urdu, Hindi, and English. In his spare time, Dr. Ahmed enjoys reading, fitness training, traveling, and spending time with his wife and two children.
